A French fashion brand founded in 1915.
The founder is Cristobal Balenciaga. Cristobal Balenciaga was born on January 21, 1895 in San Sebastian, Getaria, Spain. Around 1908, he made a remake of a Parisian suit for the Duchess of Casa Torres. His talent was recognized, and he trained at a tailor in Madrid. He died in Valencia, Spain in 1972.
Cristóbal Balenciaga studied under Paul Poiret, a revolutionary in women's clothing, and was influenced by Edward Molyneux, known as the "father of simplicity and elegance." He was also known as the "architect of couture" for his simple yet highly artistic style, achieved through perfect sewing techniques. His three-dimensional cut and simple designs that do not cling to the body became the basis for mass-produced clothing. He influenced many famous designers, including Hubert de GIVENCHY, Andre COURREGES, and Emanuel UNGARO, and was also hailed as the "master of fashion."
